Two more United National Party (UNP) MPs also expressed support to the proposed 18th amendment to the constitution.

Gampaha District UNP MP Upeksha Swarnamali, popularly known as Paba along with her husband Mahesh Chaminda met President Mahinda Rajapaksa a short while ago and pledged to support the 18th Amendment to the Constitution


Several hours ago, Kurunegala district UNP parliamentarian Nilwala Wijesinghe as well expressed support to the constitution at a press conference held in Colombo.

Wijesinghe addressing the media briefing in Colombo today said that however, he will continue to remain in the UNP. The MP said he will extend his maximum support for the programmes of the President to develop the country.

The parliamentarian said that there is no democracy in the opposition party now and he took the decision to support the government with the full consent of the voters of his electorate.

UNP MPs Earl Gunasekara, Lakshman Senevirathna, Manusha Nanayakkara, Abdul Cadar, P. Digambaram, Praba Ganeshan, and Ranjith Madduma Bandara also have already expressed support to the 18th amendment to the constitution that was tabled in parliament today amidst the opposition boycotting the parliamentary session.

The vote for the proposed constitutional amendments will be held tomorrow following the debate on the bill in the parliament.
