Secretary Defence at 'Good Market'

Secretary Defence and Urban Development Mr. Gotabaya Rajapaksa visited the 'Good Market' at the Diyatha Uyana this evening (05th December). 'Good Market', the concept market which was declared open by Secretary Defence himself in December last year is celebrating its first anniversary.

A group of children welcomed Mr. Rajapaksa upon his arrival at the venue.

'Good Market' is a curated weekly event that highlights Sri Lankan products and services that includes chemical free organically grown fruits and vegetables, artisanal food and snacks, fair trade crafts, handmade original art, natural health and beauty products, non toxic home and garden products, sun dried food, handicraft and other environment friendly products.

Within a year of its inception the 'Good Market' has managed to create an ever growing patronage from both young and old. The 'Diyatha Uyana', the unique multi-purpose leisure cum commercial facility that houses the Good Market sets the perfect setting for this concept market.

The Diyatha Uyana was created on a marshy land bordering the Diyawanna Oya in Battaramulla. It consists of sales outlets, a food court, walking paths, an aquarium and a musical water fountain. Its location and the surrounding natural environment has made it a popular destination with both locals and foreigners.

Secretary Defence visited the stalls and took time to talk with the crow and vendors. Later he witnessed a fashion show conducted by the students of the AOD fashion academy held as a part of the anniversary celebrations. Volunteers paraded in clothes made from sustainable raw materials in keeping with the Good Market concept.

Chairman of the Sri Lanka Land Reclamation and Development Corporation Mr Harshan De Silva, Chief of Staff of the Sri Lanka Navy Rear Admiral Jayantha Perera were also present at the occasion .
