Police are to get permission from the speaker of parliament to obtain a statement from MP Duminda Silva soon after he recovers enough to speak, ‘Divaina’ reports.
Quoting a senior police official, the newspaper said the MP, injured in the Mulleriyawa gunfight, was likely to give evidence in courts in connection with the killing of presidential advisor Bharatha Lakshman Premachandra and three others.
The MP is muttering words occasionally, and a statement would be recorded as soon as he is able to speak properly, police said.
Police have declined to give more details about him, since a magisterial inquiry was underway into the killings.
Strong police protection has been given to the ward at the Sri Jayawardenepura Hospital, where the MP is receiving treatment. |
