Making a sensational revelation, former Sri Lankan cricket skipper Hashan Tillakaratne alleged that match-fixing has been common in Sri Lanka’s cricket and promised that he would come out with the names of the responsible persons in the near future.
However, he said the ICC World Cup final was not fixed.
“There were threats of this issue being exposed during various times. But it was pushed down by giving money to various people. If the people who were responsible for that are listening to this, I state this today with great responsibility, I will shortly reveal the names of those responsible” Tillakaratne promised when he appeared in a TV talk show.
Tillakratne, who led Sri Lanka in ten Test matches, said match fixing has spread like cancer and has been going on in Sri Lanka over a period of time.
However, the Sri Lankan Sports Minister Mahindananada Aluthgamage rubbished Tillakaratne’s allegations.
“He should show us the proof instead of making such claims. No Sri Lankan player is involved in match fixing,” he told the Times Now television channel.
